How many of you remember the words of a teacher, either because they believed in you, and helped you to connect to confidence, or because they didn’t, so you adopted self- limiting beliefs, maybe labelling yourself with ‘I can’t’, or ‘I’m no good at.’


Teachers are powerful. Their words have impact, their manner more. It has been a great pleasure, then, to see some of our NLP graduates working in the field of education and making fantastic impact. Today I wanted to showcase the work of Debbie Ison, who certified this year as a Trainer in Neuro Linguistic Programming. She is now busy building a professional and creative service which supports teachers and pupils. Her mission is to help teachers to understand and create resourceful interv\entions, so that pupils might heal, learn and experience the empowerment of success and confidence.


Debbie was completing her Masters in NLP when she decided to choose us to learn with. When she first bounced into my home, she oozed determination and openness. Her plan was to branch out into NLP Trainer Training. She was already a fully qualified teacher, who had stepped out of the school room: a qualified practitioner and tutor in Hypnotherapy: and a Reiki Master and Teacher. So, she brought an interesting blend of structured teaching practice, interest and expertise in how language can affect mind and behaviour, a commitment to mindful working, and an ethos of facilitating people to work with themselves: their energy, their dreams, and their motivation. Wow. Now she wanted the next step, from which to launch.


Through her Trainer Training Course, Debbie polished her knowledge of the NLP models, and learned how to weave the deep principles of the discipline into her teaching style. She grew in confidence and extended her range of methods to be more and interactive and creative, to work with intentionality at both conscious and unconscious level. She accepted demanding challenges and demonstrated her competence to Trainer level earlier this year.


It’s quite common, isn’t it, that when we embark on a learning journey we don’t always know exactly where it will lead us, even though we might have a general idea. Debbie knew that her passion was still in education, to support children to learn easily, feel valued and valuable, and to keep their creativity. It was great for me to work alongside her during her training, to see the rapport that she created with her students, and be privy to her progress. And exciting to discover what she would do next.


Well, Debbie has created a brand-new extension to her core business, which is dynamic and has the potential to make huge impact. She is choosing to take her extended skill set and fab ethos back into the education system, through her company Therapy in Education Not only can Debbie work therapeutically with children, through this new arm of her business, she is already having some success in working with teachers. Her skill combination enables them to be more mindful, less stressed, and equips them with tools and principles to communicate more and more effectively. Already she is not only introducing teachers to the power of neuro linguistics, she is integrating this with energy work.


Extremely impressive, in a universal area of interest: as Sir Ken Robinson has said, let’s face it, we all do have an interest in education.


Debbie is our second NLP Trainer to focus her work in this environment, to create something worthwhile, something that can impact our children and their futures. It’s been a pleasure to get to know Debbie, and I am aware that there’s much more to come. It’s also a pleasure to constantly learn from how practically and ethically NLP can be employed. Well done Debbie, I wish you every success.
